Hanahan High School has partnered with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers to recognize one student-athlete each week. Each in-season varsity head coach will nominate one athlete and the athletic department will determine who is deserving of this weekly award. The athlete of the week does not only consider each athletes game time performance stats, but also their acts as leaders and mentors on their perspective teams.
February 16- February 22 – Antonio Brown, Kalib Gibbs, James Kinloch, Rickin Patel – Hanahan Dunkers
Congratulations to the Hanahan Dunkers for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athletes of the Week for February 16-22, 2020. The Hanahan Dunkers carried home the gold (28-12) for the 4th year in a row at the Special Olympics Basketball Event. These athletes showed exceptional sportsmanship and compassion to all teams across the county.
February 9- February 15 – Maciah Mckee – Girls Basketball
Congratulations to senior Maciah McKee for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for February 9-15, 20202. She scored 14 points in her final game as a Hawk and hit a big 3 pointer with 1:30 left in the game to give the Hawks a 3 point lead at the time.
February 2 – February 8 – Keith Bryant – Boys Basketball
Congratulations to freshman Keith Bryant for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for February 2-8, 2020.
As a freshman, he leads the team in scoring, offensive rebounds, deflections, and blocked shots. He is also in the top three for steals and assists.
January 26 – February 1 – Josh Shaw – Wrestling
Congratulations to sophomore Joshua Shaw for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for January 26- February 1st, 2020. Joshua is a 1st year wrestler. He went undefeated in both the region dual and individual tournaments.
January 19 – January 25 – Brooke Vorhis – Girls Basketball
Congratulations to senior Brooke Vorhis for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for January 19-25, 2020. Brooke scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds against Manning and had 7 points and 11 rebounds against Waccamaw.
January 12 – January 18 – Alex Herriott – Wrestling
Congratulations to junior Alex Herriott for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for January 12-18, 2020. Alex wrestling record at the time was 22-5, he leads team in pins, serves as captain. He recently won Region for individuals for his weight class 195 and qualified for Lower State.
January 5 – January 11 – Trenton Pew – Boys Basketball
Congratulations to senior Trenton Pew for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for January 5-11. Trenton shot 50% from the field, 75% from three, and 86% from the free throw line. He has also been voted as one of the captains of the team.
December 8 – December 14 – Tyler Henderson – Girls Basketball
Congratulations to senior Tyler Henderson for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for December 8-14. Tyler led the girls’ basketball team in rebounds and was a defensive stalwart leading the team in steals and deflections. This is Tyler’s second recognition as Athlete of the Week.
December 1 – December 7 – Gavin Martin – Wrestling
Congratulations to sophomore Gavin Martin for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for December 1-7. Gavin wrestled the 132 lb. weight class against Beaufort High School on December 2 at Summerville High School. His weight at weigh ins was only 127lbs. Despite giving up almost an entire weight class, he won by pin fall, earning the team 6 team points
November 24 – November 30 – Jason Albach – Boys Basketball
Congratulations to senior Jason Albach for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for November 24-30. Elected as a captain earlier in the week, Jason scored 4 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and had 7 steals in win over Academic Magnet in the Rossington Law Office Thanksgiving Classic at Stall High School. That was the Hawks first win in a tournament game in two years
November 18 – November 23 – Hanna Johnson – Girls Cross Country
November 10 – November 17 – Ryleigh Reyes – Cheer
Congratulations to junior Ryleigh Reyes for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for November 10-17. Ryleigh shows up to cheerleading practice every day determined and focused to learn new tumbling skills and improve her stunt group’s skill level. At qualifiers her personality shined through to help her team qualify.
November 4 – November 9 – Jonathan Perryman – Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to junior Jonathan Perryman for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for November 4-9. Jonathan was one of three HHS cross country runners at the lower state qualifying competition to demonstrate his career peak performance in that crtical race by hitting a new personal record.
October 28 – November 3 – Kaylee Holseberg – Cheer
Congratulations to sophomore Kaylee Holseberg for being named Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for October 28 – November 3, 2019. Due to her determination and drive, Kaylee was able to utilize a recently learned high-level skill to help her team at the cheerleading competition in Columbia.
October 20 – 27 – Kylie Futrell – Girls Cross Country
Congratulations to senior Kylie Futrell for being named Raising Cane’s Hanahan Athlete of the Week for the week of October 20-27. As the captain of the girls cross country team, she has competed in the cross country state championships. She has also competed in the track state championships. Kylie has committed to running cross country at North Greenville University.
October 13 – 19 – Marley Owens – Varsity Volleyball
Congratulations to senior Marley Owens as Athlete of the Week for October 13-19, 2019. She is one of only two players in Class 3A Region 7 to receive Region Player of the Year. Marley, is an all around player, has led the team in Hitting, Serving, and Assists all season.
October 6 – 12 – Joshua Shaw – Varsity Football
Congratulations to sophomore Joshua Shaw for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for October 6-12, 2019. He rushed for 110 yards on 11 carries with 3 rushing touchdowns. And also recorded 2 tackles on defense.
September 29 – October 5 – Jaylen Mills – Swimming
Congratulations to sophomore Jaylen Mills for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for September 29– October 5. Jaylen swam the 100m breaststroke for the 1st time at the Region Meet and got a consideration time for State! She competed this past Saturday at State.
September 22 – September 28 – Lindsey Swindal – Tennis
Congratulations to senior Lindsey Swindal for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for September 22 – September 28. Lindsey, the only returning Tennis athlete, has assumed the role of Captain and is a mature leader. Lindsey plays 1st Singles and faces the toughest competition that every team brings. She takes initiative for all her teammates and assists with sending information, motivating players and setting a great example of her ability on the tennis courts.
September 15 – September 21 – Aidan Hatton – Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to junior Aidan Hatton for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for September 15 – September 21. Aidan has been in the Cross Country program since 7th grade, the only athlete for 5 years straight. Aidan’s best performance this season is over two minutes faster than his previous personal record from last year. He went from being the team’s number two runner last year to currently the number one. He has now surpassed every strong runner in our region.
September 8 – September 14 – Tyler Henderson – Volleyball
Congratulations to senior Tyler Henderson for being named the Raising Canes Hanahan Athlete of the Week for September 8 – September 14. Tyler had an amazing Volleyball offensive performance with 9 kills. She also contributed 4 blocks and had a serving percentage of 100.
August 25 – August 31 – Morgan Windom – Volleyball
Congratulations to junior Morgan Windom for being named the Raising Cane’s Hanahan Athlete of the Week for August 25 – August 31. Morgan had an outstanding week in Volleyball with 10 digs, 15 assists, and had a 100 serving percentage in our win against Philip Simmons High School.
